{06} “Anti” Hormone Pills

When it came to all of my treatments and advice, I took them whole heartedly and on sound faith, but when it came time to begin the recommended Tamoxifen, that is where I really struggled with my decision.

In a nutshell, Tamoxifen is given to pre-menopausal women as a daily dose for up to 5 years and the list of possible side effects alone brought tears to my eyes.  I’ll leave the medical pamphlets to tell the details, but out of the litany of horrible effects, I’ve had none and I practically want to whisper this fact so that I don’t jinx myself.  My sister-in-law who is close in age to me had the opposite and she really struggled with many side effects.  So, I know it’s an individual physical response.  I just want you to know that if it is recommended to you and you’re considering it, there are many women who handle it very well.

I will end with this; somewhere early on I read that it was wise to take the pill at night so it broke down in the body while you’re asleep which might help diminish side effects. I’ve taken this advice to heart and like a crazed, superstitious woman, and only take it right before bed.  Who knows… maybe there’s truth to it.
