Say “Good” or “Bad”

October 22, 2008

I’m quickly learning that in the world of medical lingo, the terms “positive” and “negative” have VERY prominent dual meanings, so I’ve learned to say “good and “bad” when passing on information.  Some examples of my recent conversations:

  • You are such a positive person.  (good)
  • Your biopsy tested positive for cancer.  (bad)
  • Your xray is negative.  (good)
  • Your blah-blah-blah levels are positive.  (good)
  • Your other blah-blah-blah level is negative.  (also good)
  • And so it goes…

This thought just got me laughing…imagine if Clint Eastwood’s movie, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was originally titled, The Positive, The Negative, and The Beautiful on the Inside.  It doesn’t quite have the same affect.
